MENTORING

  • Support and encourage
  • Help develop skills & improve performance
  • Mentors offer some of their life experiences and knowledge to help mentees
  • Skills involved in both do overlap empathy, listening and asking questions are key
  • Difference is that the Coach facilitates self exploration, not answers

Transactional Coaching

  • Relates to goals and improved performance
  • Clarify self-set short term goals
  • The development of specific skills
  • Often coaching in an organisational setting
  • Usually fairly short ‘shelf’ life

Transformational Coaching

  • Is more about personal growth
  • Acquiring skills
  • Empowerment of the Coachee
  • Develop the whole person
  • Deals with more complex thinking
  • Sets agenda for the future
